Mitski geeft details vrij over zesde album

Het nieuwe album komt eraan op 4 februari 2022 via Dead Oceans.

Fans van Mitski kunnen opgelucht adem halen: de artieste, die na ‘Be The Cowboy’ (2018) een pauze van onbepaalde duur aankondigde, komt met een volgend album dat ‘Laurell Hell’ zal heten. Ze komt de plaat ook voorstellen op 30 april 2022 in de Botanique.

In oktober was er al Working For The Knife en nu is er een tweede single. Die heet The Only Heartbreaker. De artieste gaf in een persbericht ook meer uitleg over de hiatus: "I got to a point where I just knew that if I kept going this way, I would numb myself to completion. I needed love songs about real relationships that are not power struggles to be won or lost. I needed songs that could help me forgive both others and myself. I make mistakes all the time. I don't want to put on a front where I'm a role model, but I'm also not a bad person. I needed to create this space mostly for myself where I sat in that gray area.”

Over de nieuwe track zegt ze: “It depicts the person always messing up in the relationship, the designated Bad Guy who gets the blame. It could simply be about that, but I also wanted to depict something sadder beneath the surface, that maybe the reason you're always the one making mistakes is because you're the only one trying."
