Zesde soloplaat voor Robbie Robertson (The Band)

Robbie Robertson van The Band is terug met zijn eerste soloplaat sinds 2011.

‘Sinematic’, het aankomende album van Robbie Robertson komt er aan op 20 september. De voormalige gitarist/zanger van The Band is daarmee aan zijn zesde soloplaat toe. Hieronder kan je al een eerste track beluisteren: I Hear You Paint Houses, een samenwerking met die andere grootheid: Van Morrison.

Zoals de titel al verklapt, is de plaat geïnspireerd door zijn werk voor de films waarvoor hij muziek componeerde de voorbije decennia. Recent schreef hij nog de soundtrack voor o.a. ‘The Irishman’ van Martin Scorcese, maar ook voor de aankomende documentaire ‘Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band’, die gebaseerd is op zijn biografie ‘Testimony’.

In een statement, zegt Robertson zelf: "I was working on music for The Irishman and working on the documentary, and these things were bleeding into each other. I could see a path. Ideas for songs about haunting and violent and beautiful things were swirling together like a movie. You follow that sound and it all starts to take shape right in front of your ears. At some point, I started referring to it as 'Peckinpah Rock' [a nod to late Westerns filmmaker Sam Peckinpah]."
