Meltdown inspireert Robert Smith (The Cure) tot nieuwe songs

Robert Smith, eeuwige zwartrok van The Cure, heeft zich in een interview laten ontvallen dat het samenstellen van het Meltdown-festival in het Londense Southbank Centre hem heeft geïnspireerd tot het schrijven van nieuwe muziek.

 

“I’ve listened to more new music in the last six months than I ever have. I’ve suddenly fallen in love with the idea of writing new songs, so it’s had a really good effect on me. I booked some time to do some demos next month. Some of it’s really good, some of it not so good. I never wanted to be in a position where I was forcing myself to write, I’ve never felt comfortable with that”, zei hij in een interview met BBC6 Music.

 

Hij zei ook dat hij tijdens dat Meltdown Festival hij vooral songs uit de backcatalogue zal spelen samen met andere bands op de affiche, waaronder nu ook Nine Inch Nails, The Libertines en Placebo: “It will be me and four other people that I know really well, and some others.”

 

Het festival vindt plaats tussen 15 en 24 juni.
