John Grant verheft leugen tot kunst

Bella Union brengt op 14 juni het nieuwe album uit

'The Art Of The Lie' luidt de titel van de nieuwe plaat van John Grant. En meteen werd ook nieuwe single It's A Bitch te grabbel gegooid.

Over die single zegt Grant: "It was a blast making this track which is just about having fun with words, synths and dope rhythms and bass lines and also making fun of post-COVID malaise. Plus, people get to ponder what a 'hesher' is. I loved going to the arcade in the 80s and watching smokin'-hot heshers hold court while playing Tempest, Stargate, Robotron and Asteroids, and while also blasting Iron Maiden and Rush on their Walkmans." 

Het album ontsprong aan het brein van John Grant in de herfst van 2022. Eerder dat jaar werd hij voorgesteld aan Ivor Guest, producer en componist van Grace Jones' Southbank show. Ze hadden het over twee albums, waaraan Guest had gewerkt: 'Hurricane' voor Jones, 'Prohibition' voor Brigitte Fontaine. "Grace and Brigitte are two very big artists for me," legt Grant uit. "I love the albums he did for them. 'Hurricane' is an indispensable piece of Grace's catalogue. I said, I really think you should do this next record with me. He said, I think you're right." 

Grant klasseert 'The Art Of The Lie' ergens in de buurt van Vangelis' soundtrack voor 'Bladerunner' of bij The Carpenters, indien John Carpenter ook lid zou zijn. Venieuwd wat dat gaat geven.

Bij het album hoort ook een tournee, die hem helaas niet naar België, maar wel naar de Melkweg Amsterdam brengt.
