Derde album op komst voor Deep Sea Diver

Op haar cv staan bands als Beck, Spoon, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Shins, Conor Oberst en anderen, maar sinds dik tien jaar staat Jessica Dobson ook vooraan bij haar eigen band en daarmee verwacht ze een derde album.

‘Impossible Weight’ komt uit op 16 oktober via High Beam Records en zal worden verspreid via ATO Records, maar je hoeft niet zo lang te wachten op een eerste song daaruit. Vandaag bracht Deep Sea Diver, de band van Jessica Dobson, Peter Mansen, Garrett Gue en Elliot Jackson immers al een eerste single daaruit.

Lights Out heet die en hij pas helemaal in de lijn van de verwachtingen als je de namen hierboven leest en haar vorig werk kent.

Over de single zegt Dobson het volgende: “Lights Out is born out of a season where it felt like I couldn’t see farther than a foot in front of me for quite some time.There was a pestilent cloud of darkness around me, but I was fighting to keep my spirit intact and not fall into a deeper depression. Ultimately, it’s a song about the desire of wanting to be in a more life-giving place but knowing that you might need to be carried by the ones you love to get there. Vulnerability is always more powerful than trying to keep it together on your own.”

De clip bij het nummer maakten Dobson en haar echtenoot (en drummer bij de band) Peter Mansen samen.  Daarover zegt ze: “When we started making the lyric video for Lights Out, I got the idea to add guitar tabs and animate them just like the lyrics. I had never seen that done before… It makes them feel more alive. I also wanted to pay homage to my childhood and how much fun I had learning how to play songs through reading tabs. I hope other people can have fun with this video too.”
