daPremière: Laura Loriga - August Bells

De Italiaanse struint in haar herinnering door Bologna.

De Italiaanse singer-songwriter en componiste Laura Loriga is op 18 maart aan haar vierde album toe. ‘Vever’ wordt dan uitgebracht via Ears&Eyes op cassette, lp en digitale vorm. De artieste zag het levenslicht in Bologgna, maar leefde en werkte het voorbije decennium regelmatig in de VS. Haar album ‘Vever’ componeerde ze tussen 2018 en bevat samenwerkingen met een keur aan muzikanten, waaronder Josh Werner (Marc Ribot, Coco Rosie), Otto Hauser (Espers, Vashti Bunyan), Anni Rossi en Janis Brenner (Meredith Monk & Vocaal Ensemble).

Met August Bells keert ze terug naar haar geboortestad waar ze dromerig door de straten lijkt te kuieren, begeleid door zachte klanken, waaronder de staande bas van Matteo Zucconi.

Over de track zegt de artieste zelf: “August Bells came from a memory. It was a summer day in Bologna some years ago and the city was filled with cicada songs. A friend and I were joking around at a bar, slowly drinking our wine and wondering about the future. Suddenly, the bells of the nearby church started ringing very loudly,  and right away we both felt as if the world outside had come to call us, asking us to wake up, go, and bite the bullet so to say. It was our last drink together in our hometown so far. Thinking of ‘Vever’ as a series of imaginary veves, August Bells is definitely one for hope.
