daPremière: 3 South & Banana - The Fool The World

Onze buurgluurder likt de lippen bij deze première.

Met het linkeroog naar het westen en het rechter naar het oosten ontdekte onze Buurgluurder de Franse zanger, songsmid, mulit-instrumentalist en producer Aurélien Bernard aka 3 South & Banana in… Berlijn.

Vorig jaar bracht de man al een geprezen debuutplaat uit en nu is hij terug met The Fool The World, een track waarop hij het psychedelische pad een beetje links laat liggen. Hij laat horen dat zijn Engels verbeterd is en dat hij hulp krijgt van de Britse cultzangeres Keel Her (Rose Keeler-Schaffeler) en de toetsenist Danaloque van The Comet Is Coming.

Zo klinkt 3 South & Banana plots als een neefje en nichtje van Belle & Sebastian met een zomers melodietje, inclusief koeienbel, zuiderse percussie en een heerlijke warme streep saxofoon. De single komt vrijdag uit via Some Other Planet Records, maar wij waren zo enthousiast dat we smeekten om hem vandaag al te mogen delen. Dit is duidelijk het beste wat onze dubbele buurman ooit heeft uitgebracht.

Bernard zelf verklapt dat de song, die ogenschijnlijk over een vrouw lijkt te gaan, eigenlijk over hemzelf gaat: "This song is about the discovery of my feminine side through the Tarot. The “She” in the song is the Anima, the unconscious feminine. I started learning and reading tarot for myself about 3 years ago. It’s Jodorowsky that inspired me to do so and later Jung’s work on Archetypes. This process with the cards is ultimately a way to connect with my intuition, my higher self. I spent most of my life repressing my feminine side. I understand now that I was conditioned this way by school, my family, my environment. It brought a lot of confusion and fear in me because there were a lot of things that I couldn’t understand with my rational mind.  Fear to be vulnerable, fear of the unknown even fear of giving affection and love. This discovery was tremendous to me and also changed the relationship I have with women."
