#Lollapalooza91 - Body Count - Body Count’s In The House (1992)

Lollapalooza is een jaarlijks Amerikaans muziekfestival voor heavy metal-, alternatieve rock-, punk- en hiphopbands, dans, komedie en ambachtelijke kraampjes. Er is ook plaats voor politieke groepen. Na een rondreizend bestaan gaat het sinds 2005 jaarlijks door in het Grant Park in Chicago. Wij focussen een weekje op de oer-Lollapalooza uit 1991.

Ice-T over de passage op Lollapalooza: “It was hot. It was hot. It was hot. The crowd was hot. I swear to God I thought I was on the face of the sun out there. The audience was incredible though. They had two pits on both sides of the stage and they were out there moshing around.” Later op de avond zou Ice-T ook een passage doen tijdens het slotoptreden van Jane’s Addiciton: “By the time Jane’s came on every night, the crowd was at full fucking power. I would be joining the band onstage for what quickly became the most provocative recurring moment of the festival: a duet with Farrell on Sly And The Family Stone’s Don’t Call Me Nigger, Whitey.”

Het optreden bestond erin om elkaar af te sneren en beledigingen te uiten om vervolgens elkaar te omhelzen en arm in arm over het podium heen te hossen. “That’s a serious song,” beaamt Ice-T, "But Perry’s edgy, you know? He knows how to push buttons. So I trusted him and followed his lead because he’s anti-racism, he’s anti all that stuff. He’s all about positive shit. He’s one of those few special people in rock ‘n’ roll that’s a visionary. And with Lollapalooza he had the vision.”

Van zijn kant antwoordde Farrell: “The first time I ran into Ice backstage on that tour he said to me, ‘Perry, you a playa!’ I took that as a great compliment.”
